Bethlehem Baptist Church Bee Removal
Saturday, May 26, 2007, Don Laney of Lanett and his son Bobby of Valley removed a bee infestation at the Historic Bethlehem Baptist Church in the Fairfax Community. The Bethlehem Baptist Church is the oldest of the City of Valley's designated historic buildings and is a Chambers County landmark. The bees had begun to swarm and local residents, as well as City of Valley employees, were complaining of bee attacks. In addition, a bee infestation of this size can create structural damage, especially in a building as old as the Bethlehem Baptist Church. As can be seen from the photos, several boards had to be removed in order to completely eradicate the bee infestation.
Work began around 7AM and the Laneys were able to remove the honeycomb from the building. Mr. Laney tried to transplant the bees to a new location; unfortunately, the transplant didn't take. The City and the Historic Preservation Commission extend their thanks to Don and Bobby Laney for removing a nuisance and helping to preserve Valley's oldest historic building.
