2007 Opening Ceremonies were held Saturday, April 28th at the Sportsplex with an overflow crowd on-hand. Mayor Arnold Leak threw out ceremonial first pitches to officially begin the baseball and softball seasons for the City of Valley Parks and Recreation teams. Other city officials present were Shawn Jarrell and Rodney Mitchum, council members on the Recreation Committee, and Dr. Elizabeth Lyons, council member for District 4.
During Opening Ceremonies, the teams and their sponsors are recognized. A Parade of Athletes is held that introduces each team and then the players and coaches march around the ball fields in their team uniforms. The 2007 season will see 32 baseball, softball and t-ball teams with players ranging in age from 3 years to 15 years take to their 'field of dreams'.
