What do I do if my animal is picked up?
You will have to go to City Hall, show proof of rabies vaccinations, and get a release form before you can get your animal out of the Humane Society. The release fee is $25.00 per animal. If your animal stays at the Humane Society for an extended period of time, you will have to pay a $10.00 per day boarding fee.

Are any dog breeds prohibited?
No. The City of Valley does not have a breed specific prohibition.

What are the laws on restraint of animals?
Section 10-37 Restraint of the City Animal Control Ordinance states "All dogs need to be in a pen or fence and if taken out of the yard needs to be on a leash at all times. Making sure your animals stay on your own property is also Alabama State Law."

Can I chain my dog?
No. The City of Valley has a no chain policy that means no dog can be on a chain or cable tie or on a cable tie or chain on a runner.

How many animals can I have?
You can not have more than 5 animals at a residence. Section 10-36 of the City's Animal Control Ordinance states "Not more than five animals are shall be allowed in or on any residence of the owner or the person who has custody of the animals, except by special approval by the City Council or except for a mother temporarily nursing a large litter of recently born babies." This means that no matter how many people are living in a house, there can only be five pets at that house.

Where do I get my license for my animal?
You get animal licenses at City Hall. An animal license is $10.00 per animal; if the animal is not spayed or neutered, an additional $25.00 is required. In addition, all dogs and cats need to be vaccinated against the rabies virus; this is also Alabama State Law.
