News
To become a participant in the Senior Center Program, you must be sixty (60) years of age and live in the city limits of Valley.
The following are the policies of the Valley Senior Center.
1. You must notify one of the above a day ahead of time on or before 9:30 A.M. if you will not be able to attend or not be home if you are homebound on a particular day.
2. If you miss on two different occasions without prior notification, you will be taken off the program and put back on the waiting list.
3. Meals will be served at noon for those eating at the Center.
4. The Center will be open from 9:00 A.M - 2:00 P.M.
5. Although meals are free, there are many expenses such as salaries, van costs, etc. We encourage you to give what you are able. We suggest $1.00 per day. You may donate on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. There is a box set up for your contributions. All contributions are welcome.
6. The Senior Center's cost for the meal is $2.64 which is the cost as per the State of Alabama and is subject to change each year. These meals are provided by the Alabama Senior Services and are balanced meals, no speciality meals. The meals are served daily at noon. You may contribute all or part of the cost of the meal. Your contributions will aid in the continuing success or our program. All donations received at the Valley Senior Center come back to our Center in the form of grant money the following year and are used for our Senior Center Program. Your continued cooperation is appreciated. NO ONE will be denied participation due to his/her inability to contribute.
7. There is a donation of $.25 for those who are picked up and also for those who receive home delivered meals.
8. Home delivered meal clients must also notify one of the above listed persons if you will not be home, as we can not leave meals if you are not home. If you miss on two different occasions without prior notification, you will be taken off the program and put back on the waiting list. This also applies to the homebound meal-pickup program.
9. Programs will be given on occasion such as: health, nutrition, and current information about services that you may need. Please, let us know, if we can assist you.
10. Many fun things happen at the Senior Center such as: games, parties, singing, exercise, TV, bingo, crafts, and computer classes. We also go on shopping trips and go out to eat. In addition, a blood pressure check is given monthly by Valley EMS.
Senior Center Transportation
The Senior Center has 2 buses that are used to deliver homebound meals. One of the buses is also used to pick up Seniors who need transportation to and from the Senior Center to participate in all the Senior Center activities. This bus begins picking up the Seniors at 9 AM. After all the meals for the 'Homebound Meal Program' have been delivered, the bus will then return those Seniors needing transportation to their homes.
We welcome you as a full time or back-up participant. (Back-up participants are those who can't come everyday, but are welcomed in the program.)
