Rusty and Family Together!
As the old Peaches and Herb song goes, “Reunited and it feels so good…”, and on Tuesday, May 2, 2012, Rusty the Iron Man and his family were reunited and it felt good to all those who made it happen. Chuck Moore, local artist and creator of Rusty and his family, and Valley city employees moved the massive sculptures – Rusty weighs in at 2,810 pounds and his family tops the scale at over 3,400 – to their new home next to the CVR Rails-To-Trails and adjacent to the Historic Langdale Mill.Point University students help with Langdale Mill Project
On Tuesday, April 3rd, as part of Point University's Spring Ministry Day, students, faculty, and staff from drove down from Atlanta, GA for a day of community service in the Greater Valley Area. Some of PU's top football players worked on the Langdale Mill Redevelopment Project. The students helped in the ARC funded project that is deconstructing 5 non-historic warehouses on the mill property by moving the contents of Warehouses 3 and 4 to another warehouse that is being used to hold materials that are being salvage from the project.Langdale Mill Redevelopment Project
After receiving close to one million dollars in grants from the EPA’s Brownfields Program, the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), and the USDA that funded feasibility studies; the creation of a master plan for redevelopment of the Historic Langdale Mill property; and environmental assessments and environmental cleanup on both Langdale and Riverdale mills, work has begun on Phase One of the Langdale Mill Redevelopment Project.Valley and Point University
In the fall of 2011, Point University began playing football with their home games being played at Ram Stadium in Valley. At the Monday, January 23, City Council meeting, Mayor Leak was authorized to continue talks with Point University on the use of atheletic facilities in the city.The Historic Langdale Mill Christmas Village and Merry-Go-Round
The Christmas Merry-Go-Round was provided to Valley area children as a Christmas gift from the West Point Manufacturing Company in 1956. It was located on the softball field behind the Fairfax Theater/Recreation Department Building in the Fairfax community of what is now Valley, Alabama. The theater/rec building has since been torn down.Valley Designated a Preserve America Community
