April 9th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of April on Monday, April 9th, 2018, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Randall Maddux and Councilmember Marquetta Madden led the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

Prior to official council business, a public hearings on the rezoning of properties on Mapp Road & 404 Boulevard were held.

The April 9th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $6,089,833.21
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $413,401.26
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $416,283.48
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $6,086,950.99

During the Mayor’s Communication, the following occurred

  • Ashley Crane, Executive Director of the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce spoke to council
  • The mayor called for public hearings to be held at the April 23rd council meeting on zoning of the Industrial Park Property

The following actions were taken by the city council at the April 9th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from March 26th, 2018, council meeting
  • Accepted the April 9th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2018-059R giving Parks and Recreation Director Laurie Blount permission to apply for an AARP Community Challenge 2018 Grant
    • Resolution 2018-060R permitting the consumption of alcohol at wedding reception to be held on April 28th at the Riverview Cafeteria
    • Resolution 2018-062R authorizing the abatement of a public nuisance at 2014 22nd Avenue
    • Resolution 2018-063R authorizing the abatement of a public nuisance at 3405 15th Avenue
    • Resolution 2018-064R authorizing the abatement of a public nuisance at 5505 23rd Boulevard
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-065R increasing the fee for the purchase of a single cemetery lot from $200 to $400 with the effective date being October 1, 2018
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-066R accepting a drainage easement from the First Church of the Nazarene at Shawmut, Alabama, Inc.
  • Suspended the rules and passed unanimously on its first reading, the offer of $2,000 from Randetricus Flowers for surplus property at 500 Harmon Street

The mayor made the following announcements:

  • A work session will be held on April 19th at 6PM at Valley City Hall
  • Council meetings for May would be the 7th and 14th due to Memorial Day

The council meeting adjourned at 6:35PM.
