August 14 City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of August on Monday, August 14th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Henry Cooper and Councilmember Paul Story led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Councilmember Jim Jones was absent.

The August 14th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,890,031.89
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $698,897.05
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $983,998.70
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $4,604,930.24

During the mayor’s communications, the mayor called for 2 public hearings at the next council meeting:

  • Confirm costs of demolition of the following properties:
  • 505 Wellington Street
  • 2814 16th Avenue
  • 3019 51st Street
  • 7806 School Street
  • Bond Issue possibly involving purchase of land

The following actions were taken by the city council at the August 14th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the July 24th, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the August 14th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 17-085R allowing alcohol to be served at a Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce fundraiser dinner to be held September 24 at King Ford Auto Corner
    • Resolution 17-086R giving Public Works Director Patrick Bolt permission to seek bids for tree cutting during the 2017-2018 Fiscal Year
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-087R declaring property at 5705 16th Avenue as surplus property and accepting a bid of $1,800 from David W. Crowder for a double-wide manufactured home located on the property
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-088R rejecting the only bid received for the 2017 Road Re-Surfacing Phase I Project and authorizing Mayor Riley to negotiate a bid for a lower price
  • Suspended the rules and passed on its first reading, Ordinance 17-09 leasing 1440 square feet of the Public Works facility to the 5th Judicial Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force for a period of 1 year.

Mayor Riley announced a work session on Thursday, August 17th at 6:00PM in the Conference Room at Valley City Hall.

Council went into Executive Session at 6:26PM to discuss property negotiations. They returned and adjourned the council meeting at 7:01PM without conducting any further business.
