December 18th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second regular scheduled meeting of December on Monday, December 18th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jim Jones and Councilmember Randall Maddux led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Councilmember Lana Wiggins was absent.

The December 18th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $5,509,807.66
  • Total deposits all funds.............................................. $50,866.93
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $201,526.73
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $5,359,147.76

During the Mayor’s Communication, the following occurred

  • the W.F. Burns Middle School 8th Grade Rams Football team was recognized for winning the 2017 Chattahoochee Valley Middle School League Championship
  • Councilmember Randall Maddux was appointed to the Planning Commission effective immediately
  • Langdale and Shawmut Boat Landings were still closed and will remain closed until paving is completed at the sites
  • On the recent fire at the Fairfax Mill, the mayor said ADEM had been contacted and were investigating the fire and current owner of the property

The following actions were taken by the city council at the December 18th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the December 11th, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the December 18th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 17-155R declaring 2 Schelde International Portable Basketball Council as surplus and authorizing Director Laurie Blount to sell them in accordance with existing municipal policy and state law
    • Resolution 17-156R amending the FY 2017/2018 Operating Budget of the Valley Police Department by $14,818.87 for insurance recoveries from vehicle accidents

The council meeting adjourned at 6:28PM.
