July 23 City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second regular scheduled meeting of July on Monday, July 23rd, 2018, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Marquetta Madden and Councilmember Cassie Carlisle led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The July 9th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $5,831,991.82
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $306,476.98
  • Total expenditures all funds................................. $1,280,907.50
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $4,857,561.30

During the mayor’s communications, a Councilmember Jimmy Gilson read and presented a proclamation to Diane Perry declaring August 3, 2018, as a “Day of Prayer for Chambers County” in the City of Valley. Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ashley Crane gave a progress report to the council.

The following actions were taken by the city council at the July 23rd meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from July 9th, 2018, council meeting
  • Accepted the July 23rd financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 18-106R allowing alcohol to be served at a Valley News Media event to be held August 26th at the Valley Community Center
    • Resolution 18-107R allowing alcohol to be served at a Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce fundraiser dinner to be held September 20 at King Ford Auto Corner
    • Resolution 2018-108R declaring property at 358 Summerhill Road a public nuisance and authorizing action to abate the nuisance
    • Resolution 2018-109R declaring property at 506 Harmon Street a public nuisance and authorizing action to abate the nuisance
    • Resolution 2018-110R declaring property at 335 Rehobeth Road a public nuisance and authorizing action to abate the nuisance
    • Resolution 2018-111R declaring property at 1012 Plantation Road a public nuisance and authorizing action to abate the nuisance
    • Resolution 2018-112R declaring property at 206 Williams Boulevard a public nuisance and authorizing action to abate the nuisance
  • Went into executive session for contract negotiations at 6:36pm and returned at 6:46pm
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-113R authorizing the mayor to enter into contract with East Alabama Water, Sewer, and Fire Protection District to provide EMS & ambulance services for the City of Valley
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-114R authorizing the mayor to enter into contract with Four Star Freightliner, Inc. to purchase land in the Valley Industrial Park

The mayor made the following announcements:

  • The next city council meeting would be August 13 at 6PM
  • A work session would be held on July 26 at 6PM

Council adjourned at 6:53 PM.
