July 8th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of July on Monday, July 8, 2019, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jimmy Gilson and Councilmember Jim Clark led the Pledge of Allegiance. Councilmember Henry Cooper was absent.

The July 8th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance............................  $3,985,949.28
  • Total deposits all funds......................................................  $632,814.05
  • Total expenditures all funds..............................................  $622,833.68
  • Total on-hand all funds.................................................... $3,995,929.65

The following actions were taken by the city council at the July 8th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the June 24th council meeting
  • Accepted the July 8th financial audit report
  • Passed unanimously the following items in the night’s Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2019-071R amending the Capital Fiscal Year Budget 2019 by $203,593 for the purchase of a Volvo Excavator
    • Resolution 2019-072R stating that previously passed restrictive covenants applicable to properties within the Valley Industrial Park would take precedence if there were conflicts between the restrictive covenants and the city’s zoning ordinance
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-073R approving the City of Valley’s 2019 Comprehensive Plan as an advisory policy document guiding the city in policy formulation and implementation
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-074R approving the City’s $200,000 match for the $450,000 2019 CDBG Grant and $200,000 2019 ARC Grant for a sewer line rehabilitation project. The match will be provided by the East Alabama Water Sewer and Fire Protection District in support of the project.

The mayor made the following announcement:

  1. The next Council Meeting will be Monday, July 22nd at 6:00 pm at Valley City Hall
  2. A work-session will be held Thursday July 18th at 6:00 pm at Valley City Hall.
  3. A reception would be held in the conference room after council adjourned in honor of Corporal Stephen Doyal’s retirement

Council adjourned at 6:20PM.
