July 9 City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of July on Monday, July 9th, 2018, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Randall Maddux and Councilmember Marquetta Madden led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The July 9th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,881,774.94
  • Total deposits all funds......................................... $1,552,086.74
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $601,869.86
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $5,831,991.82

During citizens’ communications, Judy A. Davidson, addressed the mayor and council about a traffic accident she was involved in.

The following actions were taken by the city council at the July 9th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from June 25th, 2018, council meeting
  • Accepted the July 9th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolution on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2018-103R authorizing City Police Chief Tommy Weldon to enter into contract with the City of Auburn Department of Public Safety allowing off-duty Valley police officers to provide security services at certain athletic events, assisting with safety and security assignments
  • Approve unanimously Resolution 2018-104R approving the petition for annexation the city’s Combs Property into the City of Valley
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-105R, which was presented from the floor, to take the necessary steps to protect and trademark the City of Valley seal
  • Suspended the rules and passed on its first reading Ordinance 2018-11 annexing the city’s Combs Property into the City of Valley

The mayor made the following announcements:

  • The next city council meeting would be July 23
  • A work session would be held on July 26 at 6PM

Council went into executive session at 6:28pm to discuss contract negotiations.  After the session, council returned and adjourned at 6:51 PM.
