June 24th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second regular scheduled meeting of June on Monday, June 24, 2019, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Henry Cooper and Councilmember Jimmy Gilson led the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

The mayor called for a public hearing July 22, 2019, on the rezoning of property at 2335 Columbus Road from R2 to FAR.

The June 24th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance............................  $4,099,203.95
  • Total deposits all funds......................................................  $180,549.86
  • Total expenditures all funds..............................................  $293,804.53
  • Total on-hand all funds.................................................... $3,985,949.28

The following actions were taken by the city council at the June 24th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the June 10th council meeting
  • Accepted the June 24th financial audit report
  • Passed unanimously the following items in the night’s Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2019-066R declaring a Public Works Department tractor and backhoe as surplus property allowing them to be sold in accordance with existing municipal policy and state law
    • Resolution 2019-067R declaring property at 5507 21st Avenue a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement on the nuisance
    • Resolution 2019-068R declaring property at 354 Summerhill Road a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement on the nuisance
    • Resolution 2019-069R accepting properties donated to the City by Marshall Nolan Boone, Jr.
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-070R authorizing the purchase of a Volvo EC250E Crawler Excavator at a cost of $203,593 for the Public Works Department
  • Suspended the rules and passed unanimously on their first reading, the following ordinances
    • 2019-14 transferring to East Alabama Water, Sewer and Fire Protection District (EAWSPD) city owned property in lieu of EAWSPD installing a booster pump to improve water pressure to the Valley Industrial Park
    • 2019-15 assenting to the sale of surplus city property to Jossie A. Valles-Vargas in the amount of $500.00

The mayor made the following announcement:

  1. The next Council Meeting will be Monday, July 8th, at 6:00 pm at Valley City Hall
  2. City Hall will be closed July 4 & 5th and will reopen on Monday July 8th at 8:00 am.
  3. A work-session will be held Thursday, July 18th, at 6:00 pm at Valley City Hall.

Council adjourned at 6:30PM.
