The Valley City Council held its second meeting of June on Monday, June 27, 2016, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jim Jones and Councilmember Randall Maddux led the Pledge of Allegiance.

All members were present.

During the Mayor’s communication, Valley received $10,000 in state funding from the Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS) to be used to buy furniture and equipment for the new Valley Senior Center, which will be an integral part of the planned $2.1million expansion of the Valley Community Center. ADSS Board Chairman Ray Edwards, ADSS Commissioner Neil Morrison, State Sen. Gerald Dial, and State Rep. Isaac Whorton made the presentation to Mayor Riley.

The June 27th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance..................... $4,493,652.77
  • Total deposits all funds.............................................. $443,663.74
  • Total expenditures all funds....................................... $511,737.06
  • Total on-hand all funds............................................ $4,425,579.45

The following actions were taken by the city council at the June 27th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the June 13th, 2016, council meeting
  • Accepted the June 27th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-081R declaring a 2003 Crown Vic of the Valley Police Department as surplus to be sold in accordance with existing municipal policy and state law and authorized Chief Tommy Weldon to deliver the appropriate bill of sale to the buyer
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-082R renewing an annual agreement between the Valley Police Department and the City of Auburn Department of Public Safety to allow off-duty Valley police officers to provide security services at certain athletic events, assisting with safety and security assignments
