March 13th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first meeting of March on Monday, March 13th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Henry Cooper and Councilmember Jimmy Gilson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Councilmember Lana Wiggins was absent.

The March 13th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,682,258.41
  • Total deposits all funds........................................... $385,379.94
  • Total expenditures all funds................................... $433,509.20
  • Total on-hand all funds........................................ $4,634,129.15

The following actions were taken by the city council at the March 13th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the February 27th, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the March 13th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following Resolutions on the Consent Agenda:
    • Resolution 17-034R allowing the consumption of alcoholic beverages at the Community Center for a fund raiser by the Tri-County Children’s Advocacy Center to be held on April 20
    • Resolution 17-035R allowing the consumption of alcoholic beverages at the Community Center for the National Wild Turkey Federation Banquet and Auction to be held on March 17
    • Resolution 17-036 accepting the bid of $3,800 from Terry Hanners, Lanett Alabama, for a 1997 Chevrolet 1500 Pickup with Stahl Tool Body and the bid of Sessums Auto Sales, Valley, Alabama of $1,326 for a 2003 Ford F250 Pickup with no bed – each bid was the highest of the 7 bids received for these city surplus vehicles

The mayor announced a public hearing to be held April 10th after the regular council meeting to discuss the East Alabama Planning Commission Comprehensive Plan for the city.

Mayor Riley asked City Attorney Jones to certify an Executive Session to discuss real estate negotiations.  Mr. Jones did so. The mayor said after the executive session council would return and adjourn without conducting any further business.

Council moved to executive session at 6:14Pm.

Council returned from executive session at 6:40PM.

Mayor Riley adjourned the council meeting at 6:41PM on this the 13th day of March 2017.
