May 13th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of May on Monday, May 13, 2019, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

In the absence of Mayor Riley, Mayor Pro Tem Marquetta Madden called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jim Jones and Councilmember Randall Maddux led the Pledge of Allegiance. All councilmembers were present.

Prior to the official night’s business, the following public hearings were held:

  • Consideration of a tax rebate for Krishna Valley Hospitality, LLC
  • Rezoning of the following properties:
    • 129 Fob James Drive from C-3 & R-5 to R-3
    • 6601 20th Avenue from R-2 to C-2
    • 3346 & 3312 US Hwy 29 from RR to C-2
    • 2004 35th Street from O to R-2

Mayor Pro Tem Madden gave a brief description of the tax rebate for Krishna Valley Hospitality, LLC, and Planning and Development Director Travis Carter described the proposed zoning changes. There were no other comments or questions during the public hearings.

The May 13th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance............................  $4,369,831.97
  • Total deposits all funds.....................................................  $294,617.86
  • Total expenditures all funds..............................................  $516,774.38
  • Total on-hand all funds................................................... $4,147,675.45

The following actions were taken by the city council at the May 13th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the April 29th council meeting
  • Accepted the May 13th financial audit report
  • Passed unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2019-059R declaring property at 2405 31st Street a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 2019-060R declaring property at 1804 55th Street a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
    • Resolution 2019-061R authorizing the cutting and selling of timber on the Fairfax Cemetery property with the timber sold at market value
    • Resolution 2019-062R awarding Cpl. Stephen Doyal, upon his impending retirement, his service weapon and badge as allowed under the provisions of Section 36-21-8 of the code of Alabama, 1975 and authorizing Police Chief Tommy Weldon to execute, on behalf of the city, any and all documents necessary to transfer the weapon to Cpl. Doyal
    • Resolution 2019-063R authorizing a lien in the amount of $2,000 on property at 4002 23rd Boulevard
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-064R authorizing a Tourism Tax Rebate for Krishna Valley Hospitality, LLC
  • Suspended the rules and passed unanimously on its first reading Ordinance 2019-09 assenting to the sale of surplus city property to Cedric Brown in the amount of $500.00
  • Suspended the rules and passed unanimously on its first reading Ordinance 2019-10 amending the existing Zoning Ordinance 99-07 as follows:
    • 3346 & 3312 U.S. Highway 29 - RR to C2
    • 129 Fob James Drive- C3 & R5 to R3
    • 2004 35th Street- O to R2
    • 6601 20th Avenue- R2 to C2

The mayor pro tem made the following announcement:

       1. Due to Memorial Day, the 2nd Council Meeting in May will be Tuesday, May 28th at 6:00 pm at Valley
           City Hall

  

Council adjourned at 6:20PM.
