May 8th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of May on Monday, May 8th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Henry Cooper and Councilmember Jimmy Gilson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

All councilmembers were present.

Mayor Riley announced a public hearing to be held at the next council meeting to confirm costs of abatement of the following properties:

  • 273 Johnson Street
  • Camilla Street

The May 8th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,772,652.92
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $707,220.41
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $422,371.58
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $5,057,501.75

The following actions were taken by the city council at the May 8th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the April 24th, 2017, council meeting
  • Accepted the May 8th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-057R authorizing the purchase of a Case 1150M Dozer for the Public Works Department at a cost of $155,180 through the NJPA Cooperative Purchasing Contract
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-058R authorizing the rebidding of the HVAC for the Senior Center Project
  • Suspended the rules for the following Ordinances and passed on their first reading – all ordinances passed unanimously with Councilmember Henry Cooper abstaining on Ordinance 17-03
    • Passed Ordinance 17-03 approving the sale of surplus city property, 103 James Street, to Henry L. Cooper and Tony R. Morgan for $300.00
    • Passed Ordinance 17-04 approving the sale of surplus city property, 3008 52nd Street, to Zelda Ward Patterson for $1,700.00
    • Passed Ordinance 17-05 approving the sale of surplus city property, 1352 California Road, to Frank and Tabetha Strohm for $500.00
    • Passed Ordinance 17-06 approving the sale of surplus city property, Gibson Street, to Phylon J. and Patricia B. Hatfield for $300.00

Mayor Riley adjourned the council meeting at 6:18PM on this the 8th day of May 2017.
