October 10th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first meeting of October on Monday, October 10, 2016, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jim Jones and Councilmember Marquetta Madden led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Councilmembers Randall Maddux, Lana Wiggins and Jimmy Gilson were absent.

During the mayor’s communications, he announced a public hearing on nuisance abatement on property at 2202 61st Street would be held at the next council meeting on October 24.

The October 10th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,087,268.82
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $396,628.10
  • Total expenditures all funds..................................... $590,421.66
  • Total on-hand all funds.......................................... $3,893,475.26

The following actions were taken by the city council at the October 10th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the September 26th council meeting
  • Accepted the October 10th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following items in the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2016-140R accepting a repayment schedule of a lien on property at 408 Dena Drive
    • Resolution 2016-141R permitting public consumption of alcohol at a fund raiser sponsored by the Chattahoochee Humane Society to be held at the Valley Community Center on February 25, 2017
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-132R authorizing the development of the Valley Industrial Park
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-142R transferring a bill of sale for utility lines on the Valley Industrial Park property to the East Alabama Water, Sewer, and Fire Protection District
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-143R authorizing EMS Director Scott Hamil to enter into a 1 year and a 3 year extended maintenance contracts with Zoll Medical Corporation at a total cost of $11,035.50
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-144R awarding the bid for timber sale from the Valley Industrial Park property to W. J. Sorrell Lumber and Pulpwood Co. who agreed to pay $75,000 for the timber
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-145R awarding the bid for Janitorial Service at Valley City Hall and Police Department to Shorod Harris Janitorial of Lanett, Alabama, at a monthly cost of $1,680, which was the lowest of 4 received that met the bidding requirements

Mayor Riley announced a work session to be held Thursday, October 13 at 6PM in the conference room of Valley City Hall.

Council adjourned at 6:14PM.
