September 24th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second regular scheduled meeting of September on Monday, September 6th, 2018, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Riley called the meeting to order at 6:02PM. All members were present. The invocation was given by Councilmember Paul Story and Councilmember Jim Jones led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The following public hearing was held, prior to the regular official council business:

  • Public hearings to confirm costs on the following property
    • 358 Summerhill Road

The September 24th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance......................... $4,827,423.15
  • Total deposits all funds................................................... $200,127.76
  • Total expenditures all funds............................................ $622,373.90
  • Total on-hand all funds................................................. $4,405,177.01

The following actions were taken by the city council at the September 24th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from September 6th, 2018, council meeting
  • Accepted the September 24th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2018-141R authorizing Public Works Director Patrick Bolt to seek bids to cut trees in the city for the 2018-2019 fiscal year
    • Resolution 2018-142R imposing a lien of $1,200 on property at 190 26th Street
    • Resolution 2018-143R imposing a lien of $2,337.25 on property at 358 Summerhill Road
    • Resolution 2018-144R authorizing Mayor Riley to enter into agreement with the East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission for funding for the Valley Senior Center
    • Resolution 2018-145R amending the FY 2017/2018 Operating Budget for the Valley Art Council by $755 for table rental at the art show held September 15-16
  • Approved unanimously resolution 2018-146R amending of the contract purchase from Burney Farm LLC and S.L. Burney IV and Sandra S. Burney to address unforeseen issues at the time of the initial contract
  • Approved unanimously resolution 2018-147R authorizing Chief Tommy Weldon to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chambers County Emergency Communications District to pay a $214.29 monthly use fee for the Harmon Road Tower for communications
  • Approved unanimously resolution 2018-148R authorizing Mayor Riley to enter into contract with Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood, Inc to provide engineering services for the Community Development Block Grant Project/Sewer and Water LR-ED-PF-17-04, which will provide sanitary sewer improvements to serve John Soules Foods

The mayor made the following announcements:

  • The increase in the cost of a cemetery plot in Valley cemeteries would take affect October 1st
  • Notary fees would now be $5 for nonresidents of Valley beginning October 1st
  • The next city council meeting would be Monday, October 8th at 6PM

Council adjourned at 6:21PM.
