April 8th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first regular scheduled meeting of April on Monday, April 8, 2019, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

In the absence of Mayor Riley, Marquetta Madden served as mayor pro tem and called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Henry Cooper and Councilmember Jimmy Gilson led the Pledge of Allegiance. All councilmembers were present.

The April 8th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance............................ $4,377,247.91
  • Total deposits all funds....................................................  $971,594.65
  • Total expenditures all funds............................................$1,404,382.09
  • Total on-hand all funds................................................... $3,944,460.47

During the mayor’s communications, the mayor pro tem called for a Public Hearing on May 13th for Rezoning of the following 4 properties:           

            1. 129 Fob James Drive (C-3&R-5 to R-3)
            2. 6601 20th Avenue (R-2 to C-2)
            3. 3346 & 3312 US Hwy 29 (RR to C-2)
            4. 2004 25th Street (0 to R-2)

The following proclamations were read:

            1. National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week Proclamation
            2. Fair Housing Month Proclamation
            3. Sexual Assault Awareness Month Proclamation
            4. Parental Alienation Prevention Week        

The following actions were taken by the city council at the April 8th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the March 21st council meeting
  • Accepted the April 8th financial audit report
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-050R authorizing the sale of timber on 27 acres of land recently purchased by the city
  • Passed unanimously Resolution 2019-051R awarding Lt. Frank Montroy, upon his impending retirement, his service weapon and badge as allowed under the provisions of Section 36-21-8 of the code of Alabama, 1975 and authorizing Police Chief Tommy Weldon to execute, on behalf of the city, any and all documents necessary to transfer the weapon to Lt. Montroy
  • Suspended the rules and passed on its first reading, Ordinance 2019-07, amending Ordinance 2010-12 by establishing 14 days as the appeal time for violations

The mayor pro tem made the following announcements:

        1. The next council meeting will be April 29th at 6PM at Valley City Hall
        2. A work session will be held Thursday, April 25th at 6PM at Valley City Hall
