February 26th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its second regular scheduled meeting of February on Monday, February 26th, 2018, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Jimmy Gilson and Councilmember Paul Story led the Pledge of Allegiance. All members were present.

Prior to official business, District Judge Calvin Milford swore in Cassie Carlisle who was chosen at the last council meeting to fill the District 5 council seat vacancy.

The February 26th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $6,257,830.58
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $386,081.31
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $547,788.83
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $6,096,123.06

During the Mayor’s Communication, the following occurred

  • As part of Black History Month, Councilmember Cooper read and presented to Reverend D. George McCulloh recognizing his contributions, commitment, and service to the citizens of the City of Valley and the Greater Valley Area
  • Public hearings to be held at the next council meeting were called for rezoning of property at 40th Street and 20th Avenue and property at 231 Huguley Road

The following actions were taken by the city council at the February 26th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the February 12th, 2018, council meeting
  • Accepted the February 26th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 2018-044R permitting the public consumption of alcohol for the Wild Turkey Federation Banquet and Auction to be held at the Valley Community Center on March 16
    • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-045R approving a $300 cash advance to councilmembers attending the Alabama League of Municipalities Convention being held in Montgomery May 19-22
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 2018-046R entering into contract with Community Consultants, Incorporated to provide services for applying for and administering grants relating to infrastructure improvement projects related to the John Soules Food production plant locating in the City
  • Approved unanimously, on its second reading, Ordinance 2018-03 declaring it unlawful for any person in the city to allow the house or building in which the people live or own or the premises around the house or the alley or street abutting the premises to become or remain in an unsanitary or unsightly condition

The council meeting adjourned at 6:25PM.
