January 9th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first meeting of January on Monday, January 9th, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Paul Story and Councilmember Jim Jones led the Pledge of Allegiance.

All councilmembers were present.

During the Mayor’s Communications, Mayor Riley appointed Suzie Britt to the Board of Adjustments as a regular member and called for a public hearing to be held at the next council meeting on January 23 to confirm costs of demolition at

  • 2205 65th Street
  • 5907 22nd Avenue
  • 118, 120, 122 Greenberry Circle
  • 5803 16th Avenue
  • 304 Hodge Street

Councilmember Gilson read and presented a proclamation declaring January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month in the City of Valley to Kathy Richardson.

The January 9th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,034,392.97
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $735,281.42
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $958,132.82
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $3,811,541.57

The following actions were taken by the city council at the January 9th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the December 12th, 2016 council meeting
  • Accepted the January 9th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously items on the Consent Agenda
    • Resolution 17-001R authorizing a lien on property at 5607 16th Avenue
    • Resolution 17-002R authorizing a lien on property at 403 Glennwood Street
    • Resolution 17-003R authorizing a lien on property at 374 Summerhill Road
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-004R authorizing City Recreation Director Laurie Blount to bid on behalf of Valley for the right to host the 2018 Senior Masters games at an estimated cost of $3,000
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-005R rescinding Resolution 2016-174R due to the wrong address for property declared a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the nuisance
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-006R declaring a 1997 Chevrolet 1500 vehicle and a 1995 GMC 1550 vehicle as surplus property and authorizing Public Works Director Patrick Bolt to dispose of the vehicles in accordance with municipal policy and state law
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 17-007R declaring an ice machine as surplus property and authorizing Parks and Recreation Director Laurie Blount to dispose of the item in accordance with municipal policy and state law

 

Mayor Riley made the following announcements

    • City hall would be closed on January 16 in observance of Martin Luther King Day
    • A council work session would be held on Thursday, January 19
    • Thanked the County Commission for loaning the city 2 pieces of county equipment to help clear stumps at the Valley Industrial Park

 

Council adjourned at 6:15 PM.
