May 9th City Council Meeting

The Valley City Council held its first meeting of May on Monday, May 9th, 2016, in the Council Chambers at Valley City Hall.

Mayor Leonard Riley called the meeting to order at 6:00PM. The invocation was given by Councilmember Henry Cooper and Councilmember Jimmy Gilson led the Pledge of Allegiance.

All members were present.

The following occurred during the mayor’s communications:

  • Councilmember Wiggins read and presented a proclamation to EMS Director Scott Hamil and EMS employees Glenn Johnson and Greg Gregory proclaiming the week of May 15 – 21 as “Emergency Medical Services Week” in the City of Valley
  • Councilmember Madden read and presented a proclamation to Terry Martin, Valley Historic Preservation Commission (VHPC) president, and Jason Williams, VHPC vice-president, declaring the month of May as “National Historic Preservation Month”
  • Mayor Riley announced the appointment of Kathy Snowden to the City of Valley City Clerk/Treasurer position

The May 9th financial audit report for the city was given as follows:

  • Checking account previous balance.................. $4,202,261.44
  • Total deposits all funds............................................ $677,471.35
  • Total expenditures all funds.................................... $303,645.96
  • Total on-hand all funds......................................... $4,576,086.83

The following actions were taken by the city council at the May 9th meeting:

  • Approved the minutes from the April 25th, 2016, council meeting
  • Accepted the May 9th financial audit report
  • Approved unanimously the following resolutions on the Consent Agenda:
    • Resolution 2016-068R declaring a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe no longer needed by the Valley Police Department and authorizing Valley Police Chief Weldon to sell the vehicle according to existing municipal policy and state law
    • Resolution 2016-069R declaring property at 11 Lower Street to be a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the property
    • Resolution 2016-070R declaring property at 5907 22nd Avenue to be a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the property
    • Resolution 2016-071R declaring property at 118, 120, and 122 Greenberry Circle to be a public nuisance and authorizing the abatement of the property
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-072R declaring the double drive entrance road to the new industrial park as a public road to be known as Valley Industrial Boulevard
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-073R accepting a bid of $2,001.99 from Mike Cox of Valley, which was the highest of the 4 bids received, for a 2006 Recreation/Design Travel Trailer Vehicle previously declared as surplus
  • Approved unanimously Resolution 16-074R authorizing Mayor Riley to have a street light installed at the new exit of the Valley Sportsplex parking lot and Lakeview Road
  • Suspended the rules and adopted unanimously on its first reading, Ordinance 16-08 amending Ordinance 16-06

Council adjourned at 6:25PM.
